Artist Statement: They always say, from concrete comes roses. In my time, I've seen it from working hands — hands that hold our communities together, that carry the tears, sorrows, celebrations, and upliftment of Black existence. From those hands come roses. This outlook comes from my own journey: growing up with a single parent through the civil war in Liberia, to becoming a father myself in the United Staåtes. Yet I see this every day, on repeat — mothers, fathers, and sisters striving for a better life amid the adversity of socio-economic hardship and political and systemic roadblocks.
